A Record-Breaking Hampton Roads Giving Day Raises $1.7 Million for 218 Local Nonprofits
Hampton Roads – May 12, 2021 – The Peninsula Community Foundation today announced record-breaking results for its 8th annual Give Local 757 Giving Day, which was held yesterday, Tuesday, May 11, 2021. A total of $1,712,358 was raised from 10,165 donors who made 13,203 total gifts in support of 218 local nonprofits who represent every city in the region.
Kennedy’s Angel Gowns received $13,722 raised from only 58 donors this year! We are overwhelmed with the incredible generosity and support.
The COVID-19 pandemic has amplified nonprofit needs. On Peninsula Community Foundation’s Giving Day this year, family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and businesses from across the region came together to give where they live.
“Everything about this year has been different — everything but the generosity of Hampton Roads’ citizens, and we thank every donor for their meaningful contributions. We’re so grateful for the extraordinary, record-breaking response from our community for Give Local 757. While the pandemic made it impossible for nonprofits to raise funds in traditional in-person events, thousands responded to the call on Hampton Roads,” said Tammy Flynn, Director Philanthropy for the Peninsula Community Foundation.
This year’s record results exceeded prior giving days. Since its inception in 2014, when nonprofits raised $190,000, the total raised is now $7,034,204 from nearly 70,000 total gifts for hundreds of local causes.
“Yesterday’s phenomenal Giving Day results are a reflection of the hardworking nonprofit community that has motivated so many donors to give back in recognition of their dedication and resiliency,” said Michael Monteith, CEO, Peninsula Community Foundation. “In our eighth year hosting the event, the impact that yesterday will have on nonprofits within our communities will be substantial and long-lasting, and we are proud to rally behind those making a difference.”
The community-building aspect of Give Local 757 continues to be a critical aspect of the initiative. As the region’s biggest philanthropic event of the year, Give Local 757 encourages thousands of individuals to come together and make a difference in the lives of their neighbors across all 16 cities and counties of Hampton Roads. Participating nonprofits represent various causes, including the arts, education, animal welfare, human services, housing, and more. In addition to raising funds, the giving day helps the participating nonprofit organizations increase awareness about the important work they do across the region while also providing training to empower virtual fundraising, marketing, and other resources.
