The Angel Box Team Sew-Ins
On August 19th and 20th, 2022, volunteers met at Alive Church in Chesapeake, VA. They were sewing gowns and garments out of donated wedding dresses that were deconstructed as part of our Sew-In events.
Kennedy’s Angel Gowns was once the work of one bereaved mother but has now grown to include more than 20 volunteers that make up The Angel Box Team. These volunteers sign up monthly for Sew-Ins, and volunteer from home.
We get excited to welcome new volunteers at a Sew-In and remain grateful for others who have volunteered for three years or more. The heart and passion of each person shine through their dedication to show up and serve others. Watching the whole progress of an “angel gown” unfold during a Sew-In event is extraordinary, and these volunteers love every step.
Volunteers also carefully deconstruct the donated wedding dresses, ensuring no fabric or trim goes to waste. This task is perfect for people who aren’t interested in cutting patterns, sewing, or making Mommy & Me bracelets.
If you have a wedding gown to donate or have questions about donating, the latest status is available on our wedding gowns website page.
The “angel gown” is one of several free items for grieving parents who faced an infant loss. The Angel Box includes a handmade bereavement garment, baby blanket, and keepsakes (local delivery or expedited shipping is also free). The free infant burial kit can be ordered online and shipped within the United States.
How can I volunteer for The Angel Box Team?
Kennedy’s Angel Gowns invites you to volunteer by signing up to volunteer for an Angel Box Team Sew-In event (visit the page often and sign up for a free POINT account). They are held monthly and you can come and stay as little or long as your schedule allows. No experience is needed—we provide the tools, instructions, and sewing lessons!
